Mallorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands
Mallorca is home to sumptuous landscapes, heavenly beaches, coves, small villages and the capital, Palma. But this charming destination is also a place of surprising gastronomy. Here are a few must-tries when you come to the magnificent island of Mallorca.
Located on the island's south coast, Palma de Mallorca is the capital. Here you can visit a number of must-see sites, including Palma Cathedral (built in 1299), the Almudaina royal palace (one of the residences of the King of Spain), the cloister and church of Sant Francesc, the Arab baths (remnants of Arab domination of the city of Palma) and Bellver Castle.
Mainly made up of cliffs, there are few beaches or coves. But that doesn't take anything away from the magnificent scenery you can see. And there are some very pleasant villages to wander around.
This side of the island is famous for its many coves, known as Cala. Most of them are cliffs with magnificent beaches set between two boulders. But you can also find some very pleasant large white sandy beaches.
Finally, this part of the island boasts some charming villages such as Artà, beautiful coves, a magnificent cape and Manacor, the island's second-largest town.
